A cloud of anxiety and uncertainty hangs over the Electoral Commission as the terms of Eng Badru Kigundu is supposed to retire on Thursday and according to our sources,U.P.C’s Opoka is to replace him.

Eng Kigundu, who so many Ugandans love to hate is a civil engineer who chairs the national Electoral Commission and is accused of engineering victories for the ruling party is very much a political figure. There are sources informing us journalists that the president could temporarily extend Kigundu’s term in office but the Constitution does not provide avenues under which the term of E.C commissioners can be extended even on a temporary basis. Therefore it remains unclear what is going to happen after Thursday November 17.

Kigundu himself at one time indicated in a recent interview with journalists that it was his nature not to turn down assignments and that he would accept to serve in case the president tells him to.
